Ep 29 Recap of Nirvana in Fire 2:
Xiao Ting Sheng assists the Crown Prince to take the throne, and the Empress gripes over the late Emperor’s edict to protect the Chang Lin manor. Minister Xun advises her to bide their time.
Ping Jing understands that the late Emperor’s edict was to protect the Chang Lin manor, especially after of Ping Sheng’s death. He decides that it is time for him to go back to the Capital, and Yuan Qi sends him off.
We are introduced to Xun An Ru, niece of Minister Xun. Minister Xun advises her to follow the instructions of the Empress Dowager, and she promises to do so.
Minister Xun and the Empress Dowager (the Empress) want the King to build his own imperial army, and An Ru sits in to their discussion. To prevent Xiao Ting Sheng from opposing it, they decide that they must force the King to suggest it on his own.
Back in Langya mountain, Qian Xue sends Lin Xi off, as she sets off to document new medicines and herbs. Qian Xue expresses her regrets that Lin Xi and Ping Jing are unable to be together, and wishes her well on her journey.
Ping Jing enters the capital, and can’t help but look closely at Jifeng Hall on his way back. He meets his father, and they catch up over matters relating to the northern border. XTS advises Ping Jing to be careful and observe manners, especially when he enters the palace.
Lord Moqi pays a visit to Yuan Qi, and provokes him of the little close men that he can trust. They engage in a sword fight, and Lord Moqi is obviously superior. After disarming him, Lord Moqi sows discord between Yuan Qi and Ping Jing, forcing Yuan Qi to be jealous of the benefits that Ping Jing enjoys.
Back in Chang Lin manor, Ping Jing reports that Great Yu’s General Kang Wang Qin is very ambitious, and that they might enter into war soon. He apologises to his father that he might not be able to visit him soon, and XTS is heartened.
Ping Jing enters the palace to visit the King, who is instantly overjoyed. Ping Jing is polite and courteous, but the King is still happy to dispense with formalities with Ping Jing.
Minister Xun shares the idea of reinstating the imperial army with the other ministers, who seem to agree with his idea.
Ping Jing bumps into Commander Xun, who is kinda sad that Ping Jing is leaving the Capital so quickly. They promise to catch up again soon.
The Empress Dowager, accompanied by An Ru, makes plans on how to convince the King to reinstate his imperial army. The King is still obedient to his mother, but is also caught off-guard when she suggests for him to re-create his imperial army.
Ping Jing visits his father before leaving for Ganzhou, and XTS passes the title of heir of Chang Lin to Ping Jing. Ping Jing is overcome with emotion, and bravely accepts the title, promising to live up to his father’s and Ping Sheng’s expectations.
The Emperor, oblivious of the collusion between his mother and Minister Xun, asks Minister Xun for his opinion on the imperial army. Under Minister Xun’s advice, he decides to inquire further with Xiao Ting Sheng.
Li treats Xiao Ting Sheng in secret, as XTS is unwilling to tell Ping Jing of his deteriorating medical condition.
Note: going to address the younger/ new emperor as King, and the previous/ dead emperor as Emperor. Also, with the death of the Emperor, the Empress is now Empress Dowager. I’ll be addressing her as Empress Dowager Xun, to make clear that this is the same person.
